Magnum Is Here

Last lucky Saturday I was one of the first few in Mumbai to taste the delicious world famous Magnum Ice Cream and attend its wonderful launch and masterclass hosted by the celebrity Chef Kunal Kapur. I reached the venue Bungalow 9 Bandra, Mumbai around 1.45 pm.¬† As we were all seated and waiting for the event to begin. I couldn’t help but notice chocolate samples on the table. Now when there is chocolate samples on the table what do you do. You eat. Its like peanuts at the bar.

After a while and quite a few samplings of chocolate. The event started which was slowed down due to the unexpected rains in Mumbai. Let me clarify everything slows down when it rains in Mumbai. So the event began and Chef Kunal Kapur entered and was greeted with a lot enthusiasm and applause. He was in and we were at work. Chef gave us a brief but informative knowledge on the chocolate sample which was none other than Barry Callebout. He said that this Belgian chocolate being one the best chocolate that is their in the world, is also the chocolate used for covering the Magnum.

He made us taste each sample, explaining the texture and the taste of the chocolate. Obviously no one was complaining. We were like a bunch of kids with a extra knowledge of chocolate. After hogging down on the samples especially the dark chocolate which was the best. Enter Magnum Ice Cream. So now we were a bunch of super excited kids who were eating chocolate and ice cream ( just imagine the sugar rush). I chose the classic flavor from the options of classic, chocolate truffle & almonds.

Chef told all of us to hold the ice cream and then stay quiet and take a bite. To hear the perfect crack when the bite was taken is pure pleasure. We all gobbled down the ice cream. So here is a small advise if you didn’t have breakfast, lunch or dinner and you just have one magnum for one meal that will be enough. That thing is super filling. I couldn’t even finish the whole thing. I was literally stuffed with deliciousness.

So there we thought that is it but there was still more. Chef took the Magnum and started plating and decorating it. After that he went around the tables showing us the dessert and then we supposed to do the same with a group of four / how many there were on the table with us. We got the necessary ingredients and did our best or lets just say whatever we could do in 5 minutes.

After that the Chef came around asking our theme or thought of the sundae well we said anything that came to our mind. I am sure even he got confused but didn’t show it.

So after eating, seeing and making chocolate and ice cream it was time to leave. So guys even you can go and enjoy the pure delicious pleasure that Magnum is which will be sold all over India from 20th February. That is today, so grab one now !!!

Le Mangii

Le Mangii is a well known name. Whoever adores Italian food absolutely loves the food at Le Mangii. Le Mangii which is situated in the posh area of Juhu scheme, is a perfect dinner spot. I have gone there a few times and have come back satisfied and truly happy. So when I got an invite for the pre – Valentine’s Day bash aka launch party of Le Mangii’s new outlet at Kamala City, Lower Parel, Mumbai. I was thrilled and said yes in like 2 seconds. So hence on 13th Febuary we went to the launch party of Le Mangii.

Now obviously the interiors are well done. Simple yet elegant decor is what you see when you enter Mangii. So we entered and I met my fellow foodies and was then showed the table. My excitement just kept increasing and increasing I was hoping to hog on the lovely breads, pizzas and pastas. So started the starters, now just a minute we weren’t given a written menu. So when people come and lay a tray of well plated food in front of me and tell me the dish’s name. All I remember is the main ingredient’s name whether I want to eat that or no and rest of the time the brain is just memorizing what the dish looks like and I need to click a snap !!!

So I don’t remember any of the dish’s name but I do remember their main ingredients. So forgive my female fish in Finding Nemo memory. I actually don’t even remember her name. I just remember Ellen DeGeneres gave the voice over. But anyways back to point.

When Calamari was served I was impressed. I couldn’t wait to eat it. It tasted nice but then suddenly the night took a turn. A totally inedible substance came out of the calamari which was almost eaten by my sister but thank God she didn’t. As the complain went to the management the owner Mr. Prashant Chaudhari himself came and perfectly apologized. As Mr. Chaudhari really looked sorry about it, we let it go and thought things would get better with better food.

But as much I as I was finding reasons to love Le Mangii. Le Mangii was giving me reasons not to. The starters were just okay, some like the¬†bruschetta and the potato dish was nice. The two slices of pizza that were served were okay. Where else in Juhu the pizzas are delicious. I thought never mind maybe the main course would save it. For the main course I was shown a menu with 5 options and we had to choose one per person. So we chose Zucchini Paperdelle in truffle sauce and Saffron Risotto. We asked them if we could add chicken to it but somehow it wouldn’t have gone with the taste and they declined. So the dishes came after a long wait. I don’t want to be mean and harsh over here so I will just say one thing NOT GOOD.

I have one complain – Why didn’t I see a proper pasta in an opening of an Italian restaurant ?

I guess its all and all the fault of whoever made the menu for the night. He/she seriously edited all the good dishes and served all the bad ones.

I really hope that Le Mangii keeps its standard and serves similar food to what is served at the Juhu outlet, because I know they can do better.

King’s Cake

So its been almost three months and the main reason I started my blog was to make all the recipes in the book The Chocolate Bible by Le Cordon Bleu. Because obviously it is my dream to go there and study but I cant go for some reasons till then why not practice at home. So the last recipe I made was the Chocolate Pound Cake. This week was my parent’s anniversary. So I was thinking to bake a special cake for them. Maybe not the usual chocolate cake I make but something with a different recipe a different style. Hence I opened the Chocolate Bible and started going through it. I was torn between the King’s Cake and Sachertorte. But after counseling with everyone with what would they prefer, they somehow really liked the sound of “King’s Cake”. So the decision was made.

Problem was I had chosen a different cake design for the cake. Which was round and I had already made fondant roses for the cake to make a heart on it. King’s Cake was a rectangular cake with a smaller height and larger width. Clearly heart couldn’t be made on it but still I went ahead with it. Because obviously the cake was more important than the flowers.

Every time I try a new recipe, there is always a moment in it when I am like ahem ! I hope I am doing this right and I don’t mess it up. After that I think I messed it up. But I don’t give up and go through it and at the end it is always done.

King’s Cake was fairly simple to make but there was still that “doubting” moment. Also the problem that occurred was I had no time on hand to repair the over cooked sugar syrup and the little extra thick ganache.

But somehow after assembling the cake. I just popped the flowers on top in a row making it look like a log with roses ( I like the look okay). After that came the finale of cutting the cake and eating it. Yes you know the answer it was delicious. Though it tasted much better the next day after being refrigerated for at least 12 hours. But cakes always taste better the next day at least some do. The flavor somehow enhances overnight. Specially this one. So had super fun making it and eating it for sure !!! Cookie Week !!!

So this week and actually the past week also has been the cookie week !!! Customized cookie was always a scary thing. I used to be like how on earth do they do this. I always thought I wouldn’t be able to do customized cookies. But then one day I got an order from a nearby cafe for superhero cookies. I was like lets do it! After that I got an order of 150 cookies for a princess and knight birthday theme. So after decorating 150 cookies, all your fear for customized cookies just goes away. And then you are like ‘bring it on’. Moral of the story keep practicing.

I actually enjoy the cookie orders more and love decorating them. Though it is a tedious process, at the end it is worth it. So these past two weeks I have got some really nice cookie orders. Starting from –

So this was how my past two weeks have gone. I have also made these adorable baby girl theme cupcakes but those are for a later post. I have thoroughly enjoyed decorating each and every cookie. Decorating cookies is a long and patient process but once when you are into it. It becomes an addiction and a sweet one !!

I feel themed cookies bring out a child in all of us. I am pretty sure if tomorrow you see a cookie in a shape of your favorite book, accessory or gadget, you will instantly grab and eat it.
